Iced Tea Maker Reviews
Hamilton Beach 40911
The Hamilton Beach 40911 is a firm favorite of iced tea lovers. It is arguably the best model on the market and many find a night and day difference between the quality of the tea brewed and the ease of use of the maker compared to cheaper models.
In fact, many drinkers eventually move onto this model after becoming frustrated with less expensive models. So if you want to be happy the first time around and have no need to purchase another model later on, the 40911 from Hamilton Beach is for you.
The maker is cleverly designed to be as mess free as possible – a common problem with less expensive models. This is thanks to the maker ensuring that tea comes out of the center of the sprout when serving and featuring a pull-out tray that actually keeps the pitcher in its place to avoid dripping.
The pitcher has a 2 quart capacity and is another feature that is cleverly designed. It features a slim profile to ensure that it actually fits in the refrigerator door with ease, which anyone who has owned a lesser maker before will undoubtedly appreciate.
Technological features include an indicator light and automatic shutoff, as well as an adjustable brew-strength selector to ensure that the tea can be brewed exactly to your liking – weak, medium, or strong.
Takeya Flash Chill
This model from Takeya is considered to be the best budget option on the market. It’s easy to see why when it does so many things right and so little wrong. Sure, you might not get any technological features at this price point, but if that isn’t a concern for you then this model can’t be beat.
Made in the USA, the Takeya Flash Chill comes with a 2 quart pitcher, allowing you to brew 8 servings of iced tea using loose leaf tea/tea bags. It’s worth checking out Takeya’s loose tea too, as it really is delicious.
Takeya state that they are able to “trap the flavor vapors and nutrients while flash chilling” to “infuse back into the tea”. We’re not quite sure how they were able to perfect this, but we’re not complaining – the brewed tea is delicious and full of flavor.
Besides the wonderful taste, tea lovers are sure to appreciate just how easy the maker is to use and store to keep the tea fresh. This is down to the airtight lid that ensures nothing is getting in or out when tightened. This also has the benefit of allowing the pitcher to be stored on its side in the refrigerator – a real plus for smaller refrigerators.
Mr. Coffee TM70 3-Quart
This is the first of two top iced tea makers from Mr. Coffee we recommend. Don’t be put off by the company’s name, Mr. Coffee, because you are sure to miss out on a couple of excellent models at brewing iced tea if you do. This model in particular in fact, has over 1,000 very positive reviews to its name.
The first thing you should know about this model is that it comes with a 3 quart pitcher, so it’s great when you have many people over. It is able to brew tea in under 10 minutes too, which is impressive given the TM70 low price and large capacity.
You should keep in mind, however, that it’s a little challenging to get the top onto the pitcher compared to other models. However, when it’s on it’s really on, so there is no chance of any leakage.
A few technological features are also included. An on/off button with auto shutoff and power indicator light, ice-level marking, and non-drip sprout. There is also a water window in the reservoir, the ability to change the brew strength, and a removable brew basket.
Mr. Coffee 2-Quart Iced Tea Maker
Another top iced tea maker and one from Mr. Coffee that we recommend has a smaller capacity at 2 quarts instead of 3, but it is just as good at making great tasting tea and has the benefit of being cheaper too.
You should know, however, that there is no brew strength option, so if you aren’t too confident in your iced tea making abilities then the former model may be a better fit.
Tea bags or loose tea can be brewed in the 2 quart pitcher and tea also takes as little as just a few minutes to brew to a great taste due to the fast brew cycle. The maker thankfully keeps leaking down to a minimum too.
A couple of handy features besides the fast brew cycle include an on/off indicator and removable steeping basket for easy cleaning.
Back to Basics Iced Tea Maker
This model really does stay true to its name – ensuring that making delicious tea is as basic as possible thanks to its easy to use design with an adjustable brew strength indicator.
The pitcher measures 2.5 quarts, which is large enough to brew 10 cups of tea at a time. Best of all, however, is how the pitcher is made from glass. Any iced tea lover will tell you that this is key in ensuring that the tea stays fresher and thus tastes better when stored compared to a plastic pitcher.
Keep in mind, however, that while a glass pitcher certainly has its benefits it also means that it is more prone to breakage and may also be harder to store, particularly if you have a small refrigerator. There is also no cap to cover the pitcher, although using cling wrap can get around this.
Capresso Iced Tea maker
If you love the idea of a glass pitcher for its better taste benefits, but also need an maker that has a removable lid, there is no better option than this maker from Capresso.
Like the Back to Basics model the glass pitcher measures 2.5 quarts, making it suitable to brew up to 10 cups at a time. The pitcher also has the benefit of not only having a lid for easy storage but is also dishwasher-safe for easier cleaning. The water tank is also removable, so this another reason why the maker is easy to clean in addition to being easier to fill.
The ability to change the strength of the brew can be achieved via a slide that is found on the front of the machine. An easy-pour sprout is also built into the maker’s design to avoid any dripping.
Iced Tea Maker Buyers Guide
What is An Iced Tea Maker?
An iced tea maker is an appliance that is found in home and commercial premises to brew iced tea. They are typically very easy to use and come with a pitcher that can made out of plastic, glass, or metal to serve the tea. Smaller models tend to less expensive than larger models and allow you to only serve a few cups at a time. Models also tend to come with the ability to control the strength of the tea, and loose tea or tea bags can be used.
Factors to Consider
There are several factors to take into account if you want to choose the best iced tea maker for you. Therefore, when shopping for a model make sure to keep the following in mind to compare all the available options.
It’s important to keep in mind how much tea you will be planning on brewing each day. If you’re serving tea in a café, restaurant, or for any other large gatherings, then you will clearly want a higher capacity model. If you’re just brewing for yourself and your family then you might be happy with a smaller sized unit. Capacities tend to range from 8 ounces all the way up to a gallon.
The majority of models retail for little more than $20 and are good enough to get the job done for many tea lovers. However, it’s also common to see models that cost up to $200 and these allow for more tea to be brewed, come packed with technological features, brew tea to a higher quality, and are typically common in restaurants and cafes.
Ease of Use
Ideally, you should look for a model that is as easy to use as possible so you or anyone else who has never used one before can start brewing delicious tasting tea right away. Naturally, basic models are easier to use than more expensive ones that come with many technological features.
However, don’t let this put you off more advanced models – a well-designed model will allow you to change the strength and set to brew at a later time in the day at just the touch of a button or two.
It’s always good to buy a model that allows you to perform at least a couple of basic functions. Changing the strength and pre-programming tea to be brewed at a certain time are great features to have, even if you’re only brewing for one. Other features may include an auto shut off, quick brewing, and more.
Additional features to look out for that may not necessarily be technological include, extra pitchers, brewing coffee, LCD displays that are easy to read, a recipe booklet, to name a few. As you may expect, the best iced tea makers that do more tend to be more expensive.
