This heartbeat baby monitor by Wusic is arguably the best product on the market and is certainly the most popular with over 1,000 reviews to its name. It goes without saying that the monitor is both safe and non-invasive.

It comes with everything you need, including the monitor itself, two sets of earbuds so both parents can listen at the same time (the only model on this list that includes two sets), a splitter, and a recording cable for your computer. The monitor is also very simple to use – just apply some gel and place the monitor on your belly, plug the earphones in, and listen away.

The monitor is best used after the 16th week of pregnancy, but many expecting parents have had luck detecting their baby’s heartbeat after about 10 weeks. Kicks and other movements can also be detected too.

Two features that we really like include the Personalized Lullaby Music that contains your child’s name in all of the songs, and the ability to record you baby’s heartbeat and movements to your computer, which can provide priceless memories

Keep in mind that lubricating gel should be used for best results, as this reduces the static that is associated with moving the monitor around the belly. Gel is not included so should be purchased separately.

The Angelsounds Unborn Baby Heartbeat Listener is another product that is popular and well-reviewed. Like other top rated fetal dopplers detection of your baby’s heartbeat, kicks, and other movement is best heard after 16 weeks, but many have had success after 10 or 11 weeks.

There are two audio out jack ports, although only one pair of earphones are included in this case. The monitor itself, 2 x CDs, and batteries are also included. Keep in mind that gel has to be purchased separately.

A recording cable is also included, which enables you to record your baby’s heartbeat to either a PC or smartphone and keep and share with others.

It’s fair to say that the monitor has the best appearance out of all others on this list, and it is also compact, lightweight, and easy to use, making it a great gift too.

The app contains a collection of jingles, enabling you to place the monitor on your belly for your unborn baby to hear to aid their development.

One pair of earphones is included, like many others on this list, as is a recording cable so you can record your baby’s heartbeat and share it with others, or record the mom’s heartbeart so it can be played back after birth to soothe your baby.

Best used after the 16th week of pregnancy to hear kicks, hiccups, heartbeat and other movements, the Bjingles monitor does not come with any gel, and it is both safe and non-invasive while being easy to use.

Fetal Doppler Buying Guide

What is a Fetal Doppler?

A fetal doppler is a device that is used to hear a baby’s heartbeat, kicks and movement in his or hers mother’s womb. You may already be familiar with these devices in healthcare settings, but you can also buy various models for home use. They work via measuring the change or shift in frequency of ultrasonic sound waves.

Why Buy a Fetal Doppler?

The best fetal doppler offers parents a fantastic opportunity to bond and feel close to their baby before he or she is born. While models designed for home use aren’t quite as effective as those used by healthcare professionals, due to their lower cost and thus accuracy, they offer a great alternative and are much easier to use than the ones found in healthcare settings. They also make a great gift for expecting parents.

Different Types of Fetal Dopplers

There are three different types of, but you are likely to be interested in just one of them for home use.

Handheld for Home Use

There are numerous handheld devices for home use that are more or less useless, registering absolutely nothing that in turn may actually give you the fright of your life. The useless ones tend to cost around under $20 and should clearly be avoided at all costs.

Medical Grade

Medical grade dopplers are certainly more accurate, but this also means that they are more expensive, larger, and more difficult to use than handheld models designed for home use, making them out of reach for many. They are also quite difficult to obtain too. Most expecting parents are happy with using these in hospitals and then handheld devices for home use so they can listen at any time.

Stethoscope Type

Stethoscope type devices aren’t usually too popular, but are still used by some. The reason for their unpopularity is that they are rather hard to use, but due to their relative inexpensiveness some still find that they are worth a purchase.

Factors to Consider

There are several factors to consider before you make your choice, as all models certainly aren’t made equal. This can help ensure that you make the right choice the first time, whether you’re buying for yourself or friends.

Price

As mentioned, dopplers that retail for under $20 may look pretty but are ultimately useless. This doesn’t mean that you need to spend thousands or even hundreds of dollars to get your hands on a good one, but decent ones usually come in at around a minimum of $40. Factors such as each of use, accuracy, quality, and design all influence the price.

You may have a budget in mind, but if one device is clearly better than the other and costs just $10 – $20 more then you should stretch your budget slightly.

Type

Handheld, medical-grade, and stethoscope type models are all available. For reasons explained earlier, handheld devices are the best choice. Medical-grade devices may be more accurate, but not everyone has thousands to spend, particularly as the device may only be used for just a few months.

Quality

Quality should always be your first concern, as it tends to be with any purchasing design. The last thing you want is for the doppler to have been made from cheap materials and poorly constructed, even if it comes packed with lots of features and looks great at first glance. A good measure of quality is to look at the warranty. A company that believes in their products will always offer a better warranty than their competitors and will also honor this warranty.

Design

Some dopplers come with ear buds, some do not; some allow you to wear them on you as you go about your day, some do not; some come with speakers, others do not. Therefore, consider what features would be of use to you before you make your decision, particularly if you want to avoid spending more money on accessories.

It’s also important to note that some models look prettier and cuter than others, and may even play lullabies, but don’t allow this to influence your decision. Hearing your baby’s movements, kicks, and heartbeat is always going to be the most important thing.
